Frequently asked questions.

Everything you need to know about working with ABCD Joinery — from pricing and timelines to materials, warranty and aftercare.

Cost & Pricing

What does a project typically cost? +

It depends on size, materials and complexity. Kitchens range from $30,000 to $100,000+, wardrobes from $10,000 to $40,000, bathrooms from $15,000 to $50,000. We provide a fixed quote before any work begins — the price you agree to is the price you pay.

Do you offer finance? +

We don't offer finance directly, but many of our clients use services like Brighte or Plenti for home improvement finance. We can provide detailed quotes in the format these providers need.

What happens if I change my mind during the project? +

Changes before fabrication starts are straightforward — we update the design details, adjust the quote if needed, and get your sign-off before proceeding. Once fabrication has begun, changes to dimensions or layout may incur additional cost because materials have already been cut. We always discuss the implications before making any change so there are no surprises.

Design & Materials

Do you handle the design? +

Yes. Every project includes a full design service so layout, materials and finishes are confirmed before fabrication. We revise until you're completely happy.

What materials and brands do you use? +

We use Polytec and Laminex boards for cabinetry, Blum and Hettich soft-close hardware, and Caesarstone or Essastone for engineered stone. We also work with natural stone, timber veneer, and specialty finishes. We only use brands we'd put in our own homes.

Is this custom or flat-pack? +

Everything we build is fully custom — designed from scratch, built to your exact measurements in our Thomastown workshop, and installed by our own team. We don't use flat-pack, prefab modules or outsourced labour.

Do I need plans or drawings before contacting you? +

Not at all. Most of our clients come to us with nothing more than an idea or a few photos saved on their phone. We handle all measurements, design and technical drawings. If you do have plans from an architect or interior designer, we are happy to work from those as well.

Can you match existing cabinetry? +

Yes. We regularly match new cabinetry to existing finishes, profiles and colours so extensions or additions look seamless. We will source matching materials or recommend the closest current equivalent if the original product has been discontinued. We always confirm the match with you before fabrication begins.

Do you work with interior designers and architects? +

Absolutely. We collaborate closely with many of Melbourne's leading interior designers and architects, and we're happy to work from their drawings and specifications.

Process & Timeline

How long does a typical kitchen take? +

From initial consultation to installation, a kitchen typically takes 14-16 weeks. Wardrobes and joinery are faster at 4-10 weeks. Complex projects with stone and specialty materials may require 18-20 weeks. We give you a timeline upfront and stick to it.

What areas of Melbourne do you service? +

We service all of metropolitan Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula. For exceptional projects, we're happy to travel further.

Do you remove old cabinetry? +

Yes. Our installation team removes and disposes of your existing cabinetry as part of the project. We handle disconnection of appliances where applicable and ensure the space is clean and ready before fitting the new work. Removal is included in your quote unless otherwise noted.

Can I visit your workshop? +

Absolutely. We welcome clients to our Thomastown workshop to see their project in progress and to get a feel for how we work. Just let your project manager know and we will arrange a time that suits. Seeing the quality of the build in person is one of the best parts of the process.

After Care

What warranty do you offer? +

Every project comes with a full workmanship warranty. We also provide care documentation at handover so you know how to maintain your cabinetry. If anything needs adjusting after installation, we come back and fix it.

How do I care for my new cabinetry? +

We provide detailed care documentation at handover tailored to the specific materials in your project. In general, wipe surfaces with a soft damp cloth and mild detergent, avoid abrasive cleaners, and keep stone benchtops free of prolonged liquid contact. Blum and Hettich hardware is low-maintenance but hinges and drawer runners benefit from an occasional adjustment — something we are happy to do if you need us.
